Former Brazil Women’s Volleyball National Team member Ana Paula Henkel stated something that will be certainly a topic for discussion in the coming days.

Former volleyball player and a highly influential person on social networks today (more than half a million followers on Twitter), Ana Paula, participated in the talk show of the Brazilian SporTV called Grande Círculo (Big Circle) and expressed some points of view that many won’t approve. But, a 47-year-old volleyball legend is well-known by speaking bluntly on many controversial topics in regard to this sport. Among other things, Ana Paula talked about the inclusion of transsexuals in sports (earlier, she objected the permission of Tifanny Abreu to play in the women’s competition).

“The decision of the people, from a social point of view, has to be respected, respected a lot. It’s a matter of sine qua non. It has to be respected and that’s it. But then you impose rights upon your decisions and stretch the things beyond measure. We aren’t asking for the discussion to be abandoned, we’re asking for the sports to be respected as it is. The inclusion of transsexuals is the exclusion of women,” the bronze medalist at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics said.

Speaking of the 1996 Olympic Games, in which Brazil lost to Cuba in the tie-break of the semifinals, Ana Paula admitted her intention was to provoke Cuban players in the match that will be remembered in the history of the world volleyball by ugly scenes after Cuba won the last point.
