São Paulo FC/Barueri beat 4th placed Osasco/Audax in Round 16 of the 2019/20 Superliga Feminina regular season to move up from the 8th to the 6th position in the charts. By beating São Paulo state rivals in straight sets, partially 25-14, 26-16, and 25-22, Barueri ended Osasco’s 6-game winning streak. The win of Barueri can be considered a huge surprise knowing that their head coach Zé Roberto couldn’t lead them due to a 3-game disqualification, which he received by the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) for pulling out his team from the court in the national Cup. Even his assistant wasn’t on the bench as he got a one-game suspension for being involved in the same incident. Tainara Santos top-scored for Barueri with 19 points, while Maira Cipriano Claro made 77% reception (22 digs, 59% excellent).
For the 2nd round in a row, the vice-leaders Sesc RJ barely got out alive. After winning the tie-break against C.R. Flamengo, the Rio de Janeiro side recorded one more win in the same manner, this time against Sesi Vôlei Bauru, and extended their victorious run to 7 games.
The leaders Dentil/Praia Clube wrote down the 9th success in a row, while 3rd placed Itambé/Minas prolonged their winning streak to 5 games. The 10th placed Curitiba Vôlei suffered their 7th defeat in a row.
