Playing at home in São Paulo, Sesi swept leaders Cruzeiro by 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-20) in the big match of Round 20 of the 2019/20 Superliga Masculina regular season, breaking rival’s 17-game winning streak overall (last time they lost was to Cucine Lube Civitanova in the FIVB World Club Championship, at the beginning of December) and 13-game winning streak in the championship. In general, this was only the second loss of the Minas Gerais team in Superliga.

The prospect outside hitter Victor Cardoso “Birigui” top-scored for Sesi with 14 points, while Lucas Barreto set up 5 kill blocks. The veteran Murilo Endres made 82% reception (11 digs, 64% excellent). Evandro Guerra tallied 19 points for Cruzeiro, who remained at the top of the charts despite stumbling today but now with only two points more than vice-leaders EMS Taubaté Funvic (53-51). Sesi are still in the fourth position, keeping the safe distance to the fifth-placed Vôlei Renata (39-35).

Led by Ricardo Lucarelli (17 points), the titleholders Taubaté surprisingly easily prevailed over Sesc-RJ (3-0: 25-23, 25-18, 25-22), for which Wallace Souza scored 15 points, in another derby of Round 20. With a defeat, the Rio de Janeiro side put position No.3 in jeopardy as now it has only two points more than Sesi (41-39). The next round (upcoming weekend) will be marked with the biggest match of all as Cruzeiro and Taubaté will lock horns for supremacy in the regular season.
