BRA M: Taubaté wreck Minas in big match, Cruzeiro inflict first defeat to Vôlei Renata

After the fourth round, the number of undefeated teams in the 2020/21 Brazilian Men’s Volleyball Championship has reduced from three to just one - EMS Taubaté Funvic.

EMS Taubaté Funvic and Minas Tênis Clube came to the match of Round 4 of the 2020/21 Superliga Banco do Brasil regular season for men as unbeaten teams. The former prevailed in straight sets, which was an unexpectedly easy victory given the way both sides played, so far, and took over the leadership of the competition: 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-23).

João Rafael Ferreira top-scored the winners with 15 points. Maurício Souza made 4 blocks, while Maurício Borges had 73 % reception (40 % excellent). Cuban Yadrian Escobar tallied 13 points for Minas. Maique Nascimento had 75 % reception (65 % excellent).

Taubaté collected 12 points and are 2 points ahead of Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei. Minas fell to fifth place with 8 points.

Speaking of Sada Cruzeiro, they recovered from losing to Minas and overtook Vôlei Renata – unbeaten prior to the match – with 3-1.

Cuban Miguel López stood out in the Contagem based team with 23 points, including 4 blocks. Otávio Pinto also set up 4 blocks, while Argentinean Facundo Conte was brilliant in reception (85 %; 62 % excellent) and precise in the attack (76 %; 13/17). Gabriel Vaccari top-scored Vôlei Renata with 15 points. Michel Saraiva made a 77 % attack (10/13), while Bruno Bello had 77 % reception (55 % excellent).
