The 2004 Athens Olympic Games champion Gilberto Godoy Filho ‘Giba’ received an arrest warrant.

Following the decision of the Family Court of the state of Paraná, Giba received an arrest warrant after his ex-wife Cristina Pirv, who lives in Romania, filed a lawsuit against him for not paying child support for their two children, ages 16 and 12. That information was reported by Globo Esporte.

The amount that Giba didn’t pay is about € 47,600 (300,000 Brazilian reals) and he has been failing to settle the obligation since 2018. Giba and his ex-wife are involved in a legal fight that goes on for a long time. Based on a substantial loss of earnings after retirement, the one-time MVP of the Olympic Games, FIVB World Championship, and FIVB World League has been trying to revise the amount of alimony since 2017. As he stressed in a statement for Globo Esporte, Giba has proven that the income from working as an ambassador of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and other sources of income isn’t enough to pay the amount agreed at the time of the divorce, in 2013, which was around € 1,500.

“I’m tired of being quiet. For seven years, I’ve been taking a beating, in which she (Cristina Pirv) seeks out the press and exposes the children by disclosing values of lawsuits that should be kept secret. It’s unacceptable to do this with our children. If I were a bad father, as she says, do you think the kids would call me every day, send messages!? See my photos with my kids on social media,” Giba said.

The athlete’s lawyer claimed that Cristina Pirv has enough income to share the children’s monthly costs and that his protégé can’t pay more than around € 1,000 at the moment. When divorcing, Giba gave up his share of all the assets acquired by the two during the marriage: a house in a luxury condominium in Curitiba, two apartments, and a house in Romania. In addition to the income generated by renting these properties, Cristina owns a volleyball academy in Romania and works as a speaker.
