Ricardo Lucarelli, Brazil captain: “We’ve been working for a long time, unfortunately we have never won a championship like this and it was very good. We removed a weight from this generation that was owing a little bit. Better still that it happened in Brazil and the people could watch. This victory is for everybody. I have to thank all of the coaching team, all the players, my parents who are always supporting me. What guaranteed victory was the togetherness. In the moment a player wasn’t doing so well, the others did what was necessary.”
Roberley Leonaldo, Brazil coach: “The game was very difficult, as we imagined. Serbia are very strong. Having said that, we were prepared technically, tactically and we worked hard. It was a big victory, principally because of the profile of the opponent. The work of renovation of the Brazilian team is continuous, it’s not always noticed and it’s a job done always working with young players alongside the principal team, training together and playing competitions than the principal team wouldn’t play. This competition came to show this work.”
Aleksandar Atanasijević, Serbia captain: “We had our chances in this match, specially in the first set. We are happy anyway, because Brazil is a very strong team. They have been building this team for more than five years, and we just had a couple of months before this competition. We showed some great heart, we always gave our best and now we just hope that in the future, maybe in Rio, we get our rematch.”
Igor Kolaković, Serbia coach: “My congratulations to Brazil, they played better than us in the key moments of the game. We were very close, but at the same time so far, because they outplayed us. We can be happy today and for sure we will be happier tomorrow. This team has already three players in the senior team and that’s good because we don’t have that many players in Serbia. For that purpose, it has been great for us to play seven matches in eight days. It was a great tournament.”
