A press conference to introduce the team to media and fans was recently held in Schwerin with team captain Lousi Souza Ziegler, Germany’s national team member Anja Brandt, head coach Felix Koslowski and two members of the management board – Michael Evers and Johannes M. Wienecke – all in attendance.
“It will be very difficult to repeat the success of the past years” Koslowski said recalling that the team of SCHWERINER SC won the national league for the last three consecutive years as well as the national cup in 2012 and 2013. The average age of the players standing at less than 22, “these girls are the future” Koslowski added. Though the team is very young,
SCHWERINER SC still can count on a few experienced players. 22-year old Saskia Hippe has already registered 122 caps with Germany’s national team; Anja Brandt and Jana Franziska Poll are another two silver medalists from the 2013 EuroVolley. Two more members of the German junior national team, Denise Imoudu and Carina Aulenbrock, aged 17 and 19, have also joined SCHWERINER SC this year. SCHWERINER SC has also signed two young players from Serbia, Ivana Isailovic and Danica Radenkovic, and another two from Finland, Pauliina Vilponen and Laura Pihlajamäki.
“We know that we have a very young team but everyone is already looking forward to our matches with RC CANNES, Agel PROSTEJOV, and Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL,” says Koslowski. “The team is young but we always want to play at the highest level in the Champions League. It is a very good opportunity for our players to get experience, and so this is good for us to achieve our goals in the domestic season” said Michael Evers.
SCHWERINER SC will be playing their first match of the season on Wednesday as they cross their ways with last year’s vice champions DRESDNER SC that is also set to represent Germany in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women.
