BRA W: Gerdau Minas Sweeps Praia Clube

by WoV

Gerdau Minas proved too strong for Dentil/Praia Clube. Playing away in Uberlândia, Minas earned convincing win — 3–0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-17) — in the fourth round of the Brazilian Women’s Superliga.

The victory keeps Lorenzo Pintus’s squad level with Osasco/São Cristóvão Saúde at the top of the standings on 11 points. Meanwhile, Rui Moreira’s Praia Clube has now suffered three consecutive defeats, remaining on six points.

Minas dominated at the net, scoring 15 blocks compared to just one from Praia. The home team once again struggled with unforced errors, handing easy points to their rivals — a problem that also cost them in previous losses to Sesc RJ Flamengo and Fluminense.

Praia started well, especially on serve, but couldn’t maintain focus. After losing the second set quickly, they gave up seven consecutive points at the start of the third, closing the door on any possible comeback.

Polish setter Julia Nowicka claimed the match MVP for her stellar performance. Hilary Johnson led the scoring for Minas with 14 points, Maria Khaletskaya added 12, and Morgahn Fingall stood out for Praia with 11.
