There could not be a better way for 2016 FIVB World Grand Prix to set off than with the clash of two powerhouses Brazil and Italy in Group 1 – Pool B1, in Rio de Janeiro.

South American giants prevailed over their fierce rivals from Europe 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-15, 27-25) with rarely seen domination in block when the two close teams meet 17-8! In addition to two perfectly played sets (set 2 and set 3), it was enough for their smooth win.

Natália Pereira topped Brazil’s scorers with 15 points (5 blocks), but Fabiana Claudino closed all passages to Italy’s attackers with 7 blocks! On the other side Paola Egonu had 15 points.
