The head coach of the US National Team, John Speraw, admitted his players were exhausted before the match for the bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

“It really took us so much energy to come back and play after the disappointment in the match against Italy. I can understand, I was watching our guys for the first two sets and I could empathise with where they were. So I had a suspicion that we would have to go to our bench. I definitely know that Reid (Priddy) and David (Lee) can contribute so much and when you’re coaching in this level and these guys have played for so long, it’s really high-level conversation,” said Speraw.

Americans beat the Russian National Team 3-2 although Vladimir Alekno’s wards led 2-0.

„It is difficult to experience defeat, but even more difficult to speak after it. We are fourth. Unfortunately, this is our place at the moment. If I was watching the Olympics from the side, that would be wrong. I have no regrets. All the guys were working honestly from January to August. Of course, we did not come here for this place. But it is a sport. Another thing is the reality – lately, we can not beat top teams. Why? I guess time will tell,“ stated Alekno.
