Players of the title defenders and also Brazilian Superliga champions Rexona were not impressed with the jersey their rivals wore on the other side of the net. Boca Juniors of Argentina might be the scare for Brazilian clubs, but in football, not in Women’s volleyball. Bernardo Rezende’s ladies took a confident 3-0 win at the “Sudamericano” opening, partially 25-17, 25-8 and 25-8, in Pool B. They were not disrupted even by the ten-minute power blackout at the beginning of the match. Interestingly, the best scorer of the match did not come from the winning side. Micaela Fabiani scored 10 for Boca, while youngster Drussyla Costa and Gabriela Guimarães ‘Gabi’ stood out in Rexona with seven points each.
Argentine champions Villa Dora closed the first day of the competition with a straight-set victory over Bolivian representatives Olympic, partially 25-6, 25-17 and 25-19, in Pool A. The top scorer of the match came from the winning side. Maira Alejandra Westergaard scored 22 points, while former beach volleyball player Fernanda Maida got seven points for Olympic.
