Karlovarsko made sure to take advantage of their 3-1 win against Gazprom-Yugra Surgut in the first leg, which was a big surprise since it was achieved against last season’s runners-up of the tournament, and beat them in the rematch as well, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21). Michal Kriško led his team towards quarterfinals with 20 points, leaving Gazprom-Yugra to focus on the fight to avoid relegation in the Russian Superliga.
German side United Volleys Rheinmain showed even greater superiority in the second leg against Crvena zvezda Belgrade from Serbia 3-0 (first leg 3-1), partially 25-23, 25-21, 25-19. The 18-year-old giant Tobias Krick and a 32-year-old veteran opposite Christian Dünnes stood out in United Volleys with 10 points each.
