CSV W: Brazil to face Chile, Argentina to meet Peru in South American Girls Championship semis

Brazil and hosts Peru won in the Girls’ Youth South American Championship over Argentina and Chile, respectively. Colombia defeated Paraguay and Venezuela Uruguay. Lorenne was the best in Brazil, Camila Hiruela for Argentina.

Coloimbia and Venezuela picked up their first wins, but with the semifinals having been determined on Friday, they were just consolation victories.

Brazil had a tough time overcoming archrivals Argentina 25-14, 25-23, 25-23 in Callao, while Peru had an easier victory over Chile, 25-15, 25-9, 25-22.

Colombia downed Paraguay 3-0 (25-16, 25-6, 25-6) and Venezuela beat Uruguay by a similar score, 25-13, 25-10, 25-15.

The results meant that Brazil and Peru topped their respective groups with 3-0 records. Brazil will now face Chile in Sunday’s semifinals, while Peru will take on Argentina.

Brazilian opposite Lorenne put on a fine display, notching up 17 points to lead her team, while Argentina were led by Camila Hiruela with 12 points.

The Championship will run until November 27 and the top three teams will qualify for next year’s Youth World Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand
