European Cup rookies Monza took the advantage of a home court to surpass Russian powerhouse Belogorie in the match that lasted for 153 minutes and in which the winner was resolved in the tie-break, partially 29-27, 22-25, 25-23, 32-34, 15-12. Thus, Monza spoiled a little jubilee of Belogorie – the 30th encounter and third final with an Italian side in some European competition.
Monza had two players with 27 points today – Czech Donovan Džavoronok and Ukrainian Oleh Plotnytskyi. The latter included six kill blocks out of team’s 16 in his notable display. Canadian John Gordon Perrin scored 23 points for Belogorie. Aleksandr Gutsalyuk made five kill blocks.
The rematch is scheduled for March 27.
