CHESS GAME: An exceptional clash between Terzic and Guidetti

by WoV

It’s been two days since the end of the EuroVolley final and it’s time to summarize one of the most exciting games in the tournament’s history in front of a record-breaking crowd in Ankara.

Guidetti - Terzic

Guidetti – Terzic

Of course, the players are always in the spotlight. That’s just the way it is. They are the heroes. Volleyball fans across the globe watched amazing moves of Maja Ognjenovic, Tijana Boskovic, Brankica Mihajlovic, Bianka Busa, Stefana Veljkovic & co. from Serbia and Meryem Boz, Zehra Gunes, Eda Erdem, Hande Baladin, Naz & co from Turkey.

However, it was also a clash between two volleyball experts – Zoran Terzic and Giovanni Guidetti. These two guys have shown amazing passion and they have given volleyball what it usually has and needs – drama!

It was a real chess game. Instead of the chessboard, they used volleyball court and instead of chess pieces they used volleyball players.

Every move was precisely calculated. Sometimes they predicted the rival’s move, sometimes not. On the other hand, when one team got into the rhythm, the opposite coach always knew how to stop it.

There were many substitutes throughout the entire game. Especially in Turkey, Guidetti was changing the players so many times that we thought that he will call someone from the stands to enter the court. Actually, this thing was something that made many problems to the Serbian side since they couldn’t adapt to that playing style by Guidetti.

The fans who had an opportunity to watch the game on TV, they could hear the motivational speech and advice from both coaches, especially in these key moments.

How did Terzic manage to defeat Guidetti then? Well, the experience was the key factor in this game. Turkey couldn’t withstand the pressure at the very end of the game, they lost a three-point lead at Bianka Busa’s serves and later lost again one-point lead.

Terzic has thought his players how to play “big” matches and they are doing it very well so far.

With the things we saw, Turkey and Serbia don’t have to worry about the future. We hope they will meet many times to play such outstanding volleyball.

If these two volleyball coaches meet again, they will surely provide a great volleyball show and another chess game. That’s what makes this sport the best in the world.

Recall that Serbia won the gold medal beating Turkey in the final 3-2.
