In the all-Russian clash, Lokomotiv Novosibirsk recorded a home win against Zenit Saint Petersburg in the first leg of the 2020 CEV Men’s Cup semifinals: 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22). The team from Siberia, the winners of the Russian Championship regular season, justified the role of the favorites in the match that was held behind closed doors due to coronavirus pandemic.
Sergey Savin was Lokomotiv’s most prolific player with 19 points. Ilyas Kurkaev made 5 kill blocks, while Artem Ermakov made 75% reception (16 digs, 56% excellent). German György Grozer put down 25 points for Zenit.
Just like all the matches of European cups, the first leg of the other semifinal between Turkey’s Galatasaray HDI İstanbul and Italy’s Leo Shoes Modena is postponed until further notice.
