EuroVolleyU18M: Favorites remain without final, Italy and Czechs contest for gold

National teams of Italy and the Czech Republic will contest for the title at the 2020 CEV U18 Men’s Volleyball European Championship. Both sides defeated rivals that finished the preliminary stage as pool leaders.

The hosts Italy prevailed over Poland in a highly intense semifinal duel of the 2020 U18 EuroVolley: 3-2 (25-22, 16-25, 25-13, 20-25, 15-13). By beating Poland in Lecce, the “Azzurri” will play for the title in this age category for the fifth time. Luca Porro top-scored today with 17 points. Mattia Boninfante served 4 aces, while Gianluca Rossi made 4 kill blocks. As for the losing side, Kamil Szymendera tallied 16 points, Mateusz Nowak added 5 kill blocks.

For the third time in a row, the Czechs will play the final of the U18 European Championships. In the other semifinal, they defeated favored Bulgaria in straight sets. Daniel Fabikovič was the only player in double digits on the winning side – 14 points. Tomáš Bukáček set up 5 kill blocks. Aleksandar Nikolov scored 13 points for Bulgaria.
