The coronavirus pandemic messed up the schedule of the start of the 2021 CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League.

The ongoing season in the European Cups is facing many problems even though it hasn’t yet started. The COVID-19 virus pandemic completely messed up the schedule of the qualifications for the 2021 women’s Champions League.

Only two of six face-offs will be played through the home and away matches as originally planned: between Croatia’s Mladost Zagreb and Slovenia’s Calcit Volley Kamnik and between Ukrainian rivals SC “Prometey“ Kamyanske and Khimik Yuzhny. The other four pairs will face numerous changes.

Italy’s Savino Del Bene Scandicci and Serbia’s Tent Obrenovac will play both encounters at the ground of the former (September 22 and 24).

Germany’s Allianz MTV Stuttgart and Belarusian Minchanka Minsk will face each other on neutral ground in Łódź, Poland (September 23).

Russia’s Dinamo Moscow is forced to renounce the home match against Hungary’s Vasas Óbuda Budapest due to the fact the Hungarian team is unable to enter Russia. So, there will be only one match, in Budapest.

Both matches of a duel between Israel’s Hapoel Kfar Saba and ŁKS Commercecon Łódź are doubtful. It was initially agreed that both matches are to be played in Poland (September 22 and 24) because, in case of going to Israel, the ŁKS players would have to go in the self-isolation upon returning home and thus prevented from playing matches in the national championship. However, even this option is no longer on the table given there are as many as seven positive cases of coronavirus in Hapoel so they can’t travel to Poland. No new dates for this pairing are set yet.
