A fewer number of matches were played at the start of the 2021 CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League than planned due to the problems of some clubs with the players infected with the coronavirus.

The premiere of the 2021 women’s Champions League qualifications – 1st Round was played in Italy where Savino Del Bene Scandicci hosted Serbian TENT Obrenovac in the first leg.

The Serie A side beat rivals in only 76 minutes of a play – it was 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-17). Scandicci didn’t have problems with the Serbian side although they played without four players who are injured: Malinov, Merlo, Pietrini, and Samadan. German Kimberly Drewniok top-scored for Scandicci with 15 points, while Lucia Bosetti made 4 kill blocks. Sara Carić had 13 points for TENT.

Minchanka Minsk from Belarus and Croatia’s Mladost Zagreb withdrew from their face-offs with Germany’s Allianz MTV Stuttgart and Slovenia’s Calcit Volley Kamnik because of the coronavirus related problems. So, both Stuttgart and Calcit have progressed to the 2nd Round.

Hapoel Kfar Saba from Israel reported positive results of the COVID-19 tests of several of their players so their encounter against Poland’s ŁKS Commercecon Łódź was canceled and the TAURON Liga club was awarded a progression to the next stage.

2021 CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League, qualifications – 1st Round:

1st leg: Savino Del Bene Scandicci (ITA) – TENT Obrenovac (SRB) 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-17)
