Novara-vs-Dinamo
The journey of the titleholders Italy’s Igor Gorgonzola Novara in the new edition of the Women’s Champions League started against Russia’s Dinamo-Ak Bars Kazan. Surprisingly easily, Stefano Lavarini’s side downed the leaders in the Russian championship: 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-13) and successfully set off a three-day programme, which they host, in Pool E.
Belgian Britt Herbots top-scored Novara with 16 points, while Caterina Bosetti had a reception that’s rarely seen on such a high level of competition, of 94 % (31 % excellent).
In Pool C in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, VakifBank İstanbul from Turkey swept Poland’s ŁKS Commercecon Łódź and equaled a record for the number of seasons in the Champions League (19) held by France’s RC Cannes.
American Michelle Bartsch-Hackley led VakifBankin scoring with 14 points, while Brazilian Gabriela Braga Guimarães ’Gabi’ set up 4 blocks.
