Tours VB have returned to the CEV Men’s Cup final after 5 years.
France’s Tours VB reached the final of the CEV Volleyball Cup 2022 | Men. After the 2-3 defeat to PGE Skra Bełchatów in Poland in the first leg, the team commanded by Brazilian Marcelo Fronckowiak had several scenarios to hope to qualify for the CEV Cup in the rematch. Tours, who couldn’t count on Kévin Tillie, who fell ill during the night, chose the simplest, without a Golden Set, beating Poland’s powerhouse with a score of 3-1. Thus, they returned to the CEV Cup final after 5 years (won the competition in 2017). Brazilian-Qatari Geraldo Filho ‘Goiano’ top-scored Tours with 25 points. Brazilian Leandro Santos ‘Aracajú’ served 4 aces.
Italy’s Vero Volley Monza got a promotion to the final with a forfeit win over Russia’s Zenit-Kazan (3-1 for Zenit in the first leg) as the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) excluded all Russian clubs from its competitions due to the war in Ukraine.
