In a match filled with dramatic twists, Poland’s volleyball team secured a 3-0 victory against Germany to earn a spot in the European Championship quarterfinals against Turkey. Poland took an early lead with Joanna Wołosz’s opening points, surviving a brief German comeback to win the first set 25-22.
In the second one Poland, propelled by Monika Fedusio and Magdalena Stysiak, closed the set at 25-20. The nail-biting final set saw a strong German resurgence, but Poland eventually clinched a 26-24 win thanks to Magdalena Jurczyk and Katarzyna Wenerska’s decisive block. Magdalena Stysiak was the match top scorer with 22 points. For Germany the most effective was Lena Strigot with 11 points scored.
Germany suffered another injury blow with Annegret Hoelzig (the player who joined the team after the injury of Hanna Orthmann) leaving the court on a stretcher due to a severe knee injury.
Poland advances to face Turkey in the quarterfinals.
