With this gold medal, Zenit Kazan have confirmed the domination of the Russian volleyball in Europe. In the last six seasons, Russian teams have won all of them (Zenit four, Belogorie one and Lokomotiv one).
What could we say about the final game? Sir Safety Conad Perugia had one chance to stay in the game and to tie the score in sets. However, Vladimir Alekno’s side knows how to play under pressure, especially Maxim Mikhailov, who sent the ball through the Perugia’s defense for a 2-0 lead.
In the third and as it turned out later the last set, Perugia got into a difficult situation, letting the rival to make a huge lead. We watched a monster performance of Wilfredo Leon, who managed to score four aces in a row to even increase the lead of Zenit (21-12).
We believe that host team couldn’t wait for the end of the game since they were trailing almost by 10. Alekno’s side end the game quickly, by finishing the third set 25-14! It was a sign for a big celebration of Zenit’s players and fans.
This the third consecutive trophy of Zenit in the CEV Champions league, fifth in total! They definitely rule in Europe.
The top scorer of the game was Maxim Mikhailov with 19 points, while Wilfredo Leon had 16! Ivan Zaytsev was the best player on the other side with 15 points.
