EUROVOLLEY 2017: It’s time for semifinals

by WoV

Three out of four teams in the semifinals of EuroVolley 2017 are from the F4 2015, except Russia, the titleholders from the last two editions of European Championships.

This year, instead of Russia, Azerbaijan will fight for the medal. They will appear for the second time in the history in the semifinal of the EuroVolley while The Netherlands and Serbia will try to improve their medals which they won two years ago or be even better.

On the other side, Turkey will try to reach medal after 2011 when they won bronze. In 2015 they suffered defeat in the bronze medal match against Serbia.

In the first semifinal at 16:00 CET the Netherlands will face Azerbaijan. The Dutch team three times defeated Azeri in their matches while Azerbaijan were better in the last two games 2015 and 2017.

In the second semifinal, Serbia will play against Turkey like two years ago when they met in the match for the third place.

The match is scheduled for 18:30 CET and Serbia have a slight advantage.

Until now, Serbia have won four and lost two matches against Turkey at the European Championships. But the team of coach Zoran Terzic also won their last five matches with Turkey at major competitions, including straight-sets wins in their last three.

Last time these two teams met at the 2017 World Grand Prix, where Serbia won 3-0.
