The Champions League debutants Chaumont achieved their first-ever win in the Group Stage of the tournament, and what a win it was! The Ligue A defending champions threw an 8-time Polish titleholders Skra on their knees by a 3-1 (19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 29-27) on the road.
Skra totally controlled the opening set, having a 16-10 lead at the second technical time-out which they did not drop until the end.
As for the 2nd and the 3rd set, Chaumont got themselves an early four-point lead – 11-7 (2nd set) and 12-8 (3rd set) – which they maintained all the way.
In the 4th set, neither of the sides managed to go ahead more than two points. At 23-23, the two teams exchanged points back and forth until 28-27 for Chaumont when Cuban Javier González served an ace for a historical win of his team in the Champions League.
The monstrous Chaumont, and also French NT, opposite Stéphen Boyer poured in 33 points (3 aces, 4 kill blocks), while Serbian middle blocker Srećko Lisinac notched 17 points (3 aces) for Skra.
