Driven by the euphoria of the big victory over Sir Safety Conad Perugia in the 2017/18 SuperLega playoff quarterfinals, Bunge Ravenna made another marvelous result in only three days. The Italian side came back from 0-3 in the 1st leg of the 2018 CEV Challenge Cup semifinals against Maliye Piyango SK Ankara to a 3-1 in the rematch on the road in Turkey, partially 25-22, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19. Ravenna also prevailed in the golden set by a 16-14 and advanced to the final of a tournament, which they won in the 1996/97 under the name of CEV Cup, for the second time in the club history.
The Austrian sensation Paul Buchegger, the second best scorer of the SuperLega regular season (458 points), topped Ravenna with 35 points (5 aces), while Bulgarian Krasimir Georgiev made 79% attack (11/14). The Serbian Mihajlo Stanković scored 18 points for Maliye Piyango.
Thanks to another straight-set win over Gazprom-Ugra Surgut from Russia, the Greek runners-up Olympiacos Piraeus qualified to their first-ever CEV Challenge Cup final. The Finnish Mikko Oivanen delivered 13 points for the winning side.
