CEV CUP: Golden set close at hand for Ziraat, Belogorie win trophy in the last international match of Tetyukhin

Belogorie Belgorod won the CEV Men’s Volleyball Cup for the second time in the club history.

After a thrilling rematch of the 2018 CEV Cup finals, in which they made a memorable comeback from being two sets down (they won the 1st leg by a 3-0), Belogorie Belgorod from Russia beat the home side, Ziraat Bankası Ankara from Turkey, by a 3-2 (21-25, 24-26, 28-26, 25-21, 15-11). Thus, Belogorie avoided playing the golden set, which would happen if the case of Ziraat’s 3-0 or 3-1 win.

Konstantin Bakun led Belogorie with 20 points, followed Dmitriy Muserskiy, who delivered 16 points. The Pole Bartosz Kurek topped Ziraat with 19 points, while Italian Oleg Antonov added 16 points, including 4 aces.

This was the last international match in the professional career of Sergey Tetyukhin, who announced he will retire at the end of the season.

The title in this season’s CEV Cup was the second of Belogorie in the tournament (the first one came in 2009) and their sixth European trophy overall. With this result, Belogorie redeemed for an early elimination in the playoffs of the national championship.
