CHALLENGE CUP M: Ravenna silence nearly 12,000 spectators in Piraeus to win European trophy after 21 years

Bunge Ravenna will be on the podium as the winners of an international trophy for the eighth time in the club history.

The Italian side Bunge Ravenna won an international trophy after 21 years, the 2018 CEV Men’s Volleyball Challenge Cup, and did it in the same place in which they claimed their first-ever European trophy – at the Peace & Friendship Stadium in Piraeus, Greece.

Ravenna scored another win against Olympiacos Piraeus in the 2018 CEV Challenge Cup finals. After 3-1 in the 1st leg, Ravenna prevailed over Greek runners-up with the same result in the rematch, on the road, in front of 11,800 spectators – partially 28-26, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18!

The Austrian Paul Buchegger topped Ravenna with 21 points. The Bulgarian Krasimir Georgiev contributed with 5 kill blocks. The Dutchman Jeroen Rauwerdink scored 15 points for Olympiacos. The German Marcus Böhme added 4 kill blocks.

All Ravenna’s international titles: CEV Champions League – 1992, 1993, 1994, CEV Challenge Cup – 1997, 2018, CEV Super cup – 1992, 1993, and FIVB Club World Championship – 1991.
