It looks like the idea of a united European volleyball club association is making a comeback. Once championed by Stav Jacobi under the name ACPV, the concept has taken a new form. On May 2, 2025, during the CEV Champions League Final Four in Istanbul, the Women’s European Volley Club Association (WEVCA) was officially formed — bringing together 12 top clubs from Turkey, Italy, Poland, and France.

Headquartered in Switzerland, the association includes well-known teams such as VakifBank, Fenerbahçe, Scandicci, and Volero Le Cannet. The initiative seems focused on encouraging collaboration among Europe’s top clubs while opening channels with international bodies like CEV and FIVB.

The founding clubs are grouped by country as follows:

Aldo Fumagalli was appointed as WEVCA’s first president, alongside a board made up of club representatives.

Though still early days, the creation of WEVCA raises interesting questions about how women’s volleyball in Europe might evolve. Will it lead to stronger leagues, new competitions, or just closer coordination among elite clubs? Time will tell.
