WCH 2018 M: Fantastic volleyball battle in Bari – USA down the favorite no. 1 Russia

by WoV

The clash of the undefeated teams went well for the United States!

Russia vs. USA

Russia vs. USA

The U.S. men’s national team has opened the game in a much better way, controlling the situation on the court and winning the first set after all.

However, in the second set, the tournament favorite number one has answered back by winning this part with five points of difference!

John Speraw’s side performed well in the third set, showing the rival that they will have to work much harder to win the game. Even though Russia had an advantage in the fourth set, the USA set the control, especially in defense and won the game.

The head coach of Russia Sergey Shlyapnikov tried with some substitutions, Poletaev and Grankin, but it didn’t work this time.

Since the USA beat Serbia, Russia and Australia, it is likely they score two more wins against Cameroon and Tunisia and finish in the first place in Pool C. Russia now have one defeat, as well as Serbia…

If you read Russian volleyball forums, it wasn’t battle, it was humiliation of Russia. The amount of hate their players get….Unbelievable.

Re: @Daria
they already start discussing who is to blame because Russia wasn’t win any medal in WC2018… like it is end of tournament. I just hope Russian players don’t read them.

Thats a shame. No need for that. There is so much volleyball left in this tournament. If you look at the USA’s reaction and especially the team, they certainly were happy but very tempered and low key . I suspect both these teams will be in the semis or finals before it is all said and done.
