WCH 2018 M: Epic battle in Varna, Serbia defeat France after seven years!

by WoV

The Serbian team was waiting for the win over France since 2011! After a great battle, they managed to win the game in five sets and to make a huge step towards the final six!

It was also a battle between two opposites! In the end, Aleksandar Atanasijevic scored 38 points, while Stephen Boyer had 36!

France opened the game in a much better way, controlling the situation in the first set – 25-22! In the second set, they continued performing like in the first part of the game, creating a huge lead 16-11!

However, the Serbian team didn’t want to surrender so they started serving with a much more risk. At the result 24-22 for France, Jovovic’s tactical services made a lot of problems to the French team also making a pressure to the setter Benjamin Toniutti, who made some wrong choices. Serbia tied and the boys of Nikola Grbic made two important blocks to shock Team Yavbou team.

Now, Serbia were in the mood, opening the third set much better and taking a 4-1 lead. They have managed to keep it and to take the lead in sets.

We saw an answer of Team Yavbou, destroying all of the Serbian weapons to force the tie-break.

In the fifth set, the game was uncertain, Serbia saved three match points and then Uros Kovacevic scored an ace for the win!
