For Serbia, this will be their fifth appearance at the World Championships. They made their debut in 1978 as Yugoslavia but did not compete again until 28 years later when, as Serbia & Montenegro, they won the bronze medal in 2006 also in Japan. This bronze medal remains Serbia’s best performance in the competition to date, followed up with an eighth-place finish in 2010 and seventh in 2014.
But, from 2015 Serbia just enjoyed a brilliant run. First claimed silver at the 2015 FIVB World Cup and then reaching the final of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. They lost from China but won their historic silver medal.
In 2017 European Championship they beat the Netherlands in the final and reached the gold medal.
The oldest player in the team is setter Maja Ognjenovic who has 34 years while the youngest is Maja Aleksic who has 21 years same like Tijana Boskovic and Bojana Milenkovic.

Brazil are still without the gold medal at the World Championship. They have been in the final three times, but lost on each occasion; in 1994 to Cuba 3-0 at home in Sao Paulo and twice running in 2006 and 2010 to Russia – both in Japan and both in five sets. They finished third in the latest edition of the World Championship, after beating Italy 3-2 in the bronze medal match in 2014 in Milan.
Together with Japan and USA, Brazil are the second most prolific participants in the competition, making their 16th appearance, having only missed the 1952 and 1967 editions.
The oldest player in the team setter Danielle Lins is who has 33 years while the youngest is Drussyla Costa who has 22 years.

In 2014 the Dominican Republic missed out on the medals round of the World Championship, but the country returns to the FIVB World Championship this year for their eighth appearance in the competition.
The Caribbean side made their World Championship debut in 1974 and this year marks their sixth consecutive appearance. The team competed in the inaugural FIVB Volleyball Nations League this year, ranking 14th overall.
Their oldest player in the team is Annerys Vargas who has 37 years while the youngest is Jineiry Martinez who has 20 years.

For Puerto Rico this year will be their seventh World Championship overall and fifth consecutive event, riding high on the momentum of their historic Olympic debut two years ago at Rio 2016. Their best World Championship performance to date was been 10th place, which they achieved in 2002.
Their oldest player in the team is Karina Ocasio who has 33 years while the youngest is Valeria Leon who has 22.

After participating in five consecutive editions from 1994 to 2010, Kenya missed out on the 2014 FIVB World Championship, but are back again this year for their sixth appearance in the history of the competition. Their best finish to date is 13th, which they have achieved twice (1994, 1998).
Kenya have twice qualified for the Olympic Games, ranking 11th at both the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Games.
They also hold nine gold medals from the African Championships, although last time around they had to settle for silver, after losing to Cameroon 3-0 in the final of the 2017 edition in Yaoundé.
The oldest player in the team is Janet Wanja who has 34 years while the youngest is Lorine Chebet who has 18 years.

Since their first appearance in 2006, Kazakhstan have been continuously competing at the FIVB World Championships. This year marks their fourth appearance, following their best ever placing of 15th last time around in 2014.
They have qualified for the Olympic Games only once, ranking 8th at Beijing 2008.
The oldest player in the team is Radmila Beresneva who has 35 years while the youngest is Zhanna Syroeshkina who has 19 years.
