WCH 2018 W: Brazil took the scalp to the Netherlands, Dominicans and Germans with new wins

by WoV

The situation in Pool E at the 2018 FIVB World Championship is almost clear but it’s still unknown who will be the third team that will qualify to the next round.

In Today’s matches, Dominican Republic crushed Mexico in straight sets thanks to Brayelin Martinez and Bethania De La Cruz who scored 12 points each. In this way, Dominicans scored their fourth win at the competition but unfortunately, they will tomorrow finish with the participation at this year’s World Championship.

In the second match of the day in Nagoya, Brazil barely outplayed the Netherlands who suffered the first loss in a five-set thriller. The Europeans led 2-1 in sets but at the key points, the experienced of the Brazilian players but also the superior teamwork made the differences in the play. Tandara Caixeta scored a match-high 28 points while on the other side, Lonneke Slotjes finished the match with 25 points.

Brazil still have the chances to move to the third round of the competition but tomorrow’s match against Japan will decide which team will go home and who will stay in the game.

In the third match, Germany beat Puerto Rico but that will bring them the better position on the final standings since that after tomorrow’s matches they will go home. Maren Fromm and Louisa Lippmann scored 25 points each for the winning team while Stephanie Enright scored 22 points and Daly Santana 21 points for the Puertoricans.
