Brazil wrote their fifth successive win in the 2019 VNL as they defeated highly rejuvenated Serbia’s squad by a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-15), whose lack of experience resulted in 10 unforced errors more than the rivals (23-13). Now, the “Seleção” came to a step from securing a spot in the Final Six with a 9-3 record (28 points). On the other hand, Serbia suffered the fourth defeat in a row, and have very low odds to earn a place in the Finals (5-7; 15 points) via Week 5.
Brazil outside hitter Gabriela Guimarães “Gabi” scored game-high 21 points. Katarina Lazović made 13 for Serbia, while Jovana Kocić set up 5 kill blocks.
Japan continued their domination over Thailand in major world-level tournaments, beating them for the 10th straight time to get a 7-5 record (21 points) in the 2019 VNL. Thailand are at 4-8 (13 points).
Ai Kurogo top-scored for Japan with 21 points, while Aya Watanabe contributed to the win with 4 kill blocks. Onuma Sittirak and Ajcharaporn Kongyot scored 11 apiece for Thailand.
