In a duel of national teams of the two countries that are colloquially called brothers, knowing that they both speak Portuguese as an official language, Brazil were ruthless in Pool 9 encounter, saddening the packed stands at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Gondomar (4,000 spectators): 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-18). Interestingly, Brazil did not make a single block in the match but still managed to sweep the rivals. Portugal suffered most defeats at major world-level tournaments exactly to Brazil (21), recording only one win so far. Yoandy Leal scored 15 points for the “Seleção“ (7-1), while Alexandre Ferreira made 13 for Portugal (2-6).
