The Final Six composition for the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League is nearly completed as five out six participants claimed their tickets for Nanjing, China, so far. At the end of Day 1 of the final week, two national teams joined the other three that secured their spots on Week 4.

Brazil and defending champions, the USA, booked their Final Six tickets in the opening day of the final week, Week 5, in the Preliminary Round to join Italy and Turkey who did the same in the previous week. If we add hosts China to the list, the names of five out of six contestants for the Finals in Nanjing are known at this point.

Brazil beat Italy in Pool 17 in the Turkish capital of Ankara in straight sets, partially 25-21, 25-20, and 25-23, to record the sixth successive win in the 2019 VNL and, which is even more important, to claim a spot in the Final Six. The “Seleção“ is at 10-3 (31 points) just like Italy.

Qualifying for the Finals can be considered a notable success for Brazil knowing that, prior to the 2019 VNL, as much as seven players were prevented to play for the national team for various reasons: Camila Brait, Dani Lins, Bruna, Adenízia, Gabi Cândido, Thaísa, and Tássia.

The “Azzurrine“ had mostly backups in the starting lineup today as Egonu did not even come to Week 5 while Sorokaite, Chirichella, De Gennaro, and Malinov entered the court only as substitutes. Gabriela Guimarães “Gabi“ top-scored for Brazil with 13 points, while Elena Pietrini made one point more for Italy.
