WCH U19 M: Russia and Italy dominate rivals in semis to schedule gold medal match-up

Russia and Italy scheduled a match-up for the gold medal in the 2019 FIVB Boys’ Volleyball U19 World Championship in Tunis, Tunisia.

Russia outplayed Argentina in the first semifinal of the 2019 Boys’U19 World Championship by a 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 27-25) and remained undefeated in the tournament even after seven matches. The “Zbornaya“ was driven by the player two years younger than the maximum age allowed for the tournament Roman Murashko. Lokomotiv Novosibirsk youth team opposite hitter scored 21 points, including 4 aces. Club Atlético Banfield youth team opposite hitter Wilson Acosta top-scored for the national team from South America with 12 points.

Italy also recorded a straight-set victory in the semifinals and kept the unbeaten record. The “Azzurrini“ dominated Egypt to progress to their first U19 final after 22 years (they won the gold medal in 1997, beating Greece in the final by a 3-0). The two players named Tommaso helped Italy beat the African side. The opposite hitter Stefani (Consar Ravenna) scored 18 points, including 4 kill blocks and 4 aces, while outside hitter Rinaldi (Azimut Leo Shoes Modena youth team) scored 13. Al-Ahly SC youth team outside hitter Abdelrahman Elhossiny Eissa noted 11 points for Egypt.

Russia (three-time winners) will play their sixth U19 final (two as the Soviet Union) while Italy (one-time winners) will try to win the gold medal for the third time.

Italy – Egypt 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-17)
