VNL M: Italy, Poland, and Japan Secure Victories in Pool 6 Matches at VNL 2023

In an intense day of matches at Pool 6 in the Philippines, Italy emerged victorious over Slovenia, securing their place in the Volleyball Nations League 2023 (VNL2023) final tournament in Poland. Meanwhile, Poland and Japan also celebrated victories against Brazil and the Netherlands, respectively.

The match between Poland and Brazil was a highly anticipated showdown, with both teams already guaranteed places in the VNL Finals. In a four-set battle, Poland’s outside hitter Wilfredo Leon led his team to a 3-1 victory (25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21) in Pasay City. Leon was the top scorer of the match, contributing 22 points, while Brazil’s Alan Souza stood out for his team with 17 points.

Italy displayed an impressive performance in their game against Slovenia, securing a brilliant 3-0 victory (25-13, 25-22, 25-17). This win mathematically guaranteed Italy’s spot in the VNL 2023 Finals. With 8 wins out of 11 matches and 23 points, Italy currently holds the third position in the competition’s rankings. Their journey through the VNL took them to Canada, the Netherlands, and the Philippines before the final tournament in Poland. Despite the loss, Slovenia had already secured their place among the top eight teams and qualified for the VNL Finals in Gdansk.

In the final match of the day, Japan faced off against the Netherlands and emerged victorious with a 3-1 win (25-19, 26-24, 23-25, 25-17). Yuki Ishikawa was the most effective player for Japan, scoring 17 points, while Akihiro Yamauchi contributed 13 points. Wouter Ter Maat stood out for the Netherlands, becoming the top scorer of the match with 21 points.

The results of these Pool 6 matches have set the stage for an intense competition at the VNL 2023 Finals in Poland.
