The pinnacle of women’s club volleyball is set to light up Hangzhou, China, from December 13-17, 2023. Six teams will vie for the title, including the host Tianjin Bohai Bank, alongside two Turkish powerhouses, Eczacibasi and VakifBank, and Brazil’s Gerdau Minas and Dentil Praia Clube. A Vietnamese team, Sport Center I Women’s Club, makes its debut after a historic win at the Asian Championship.
Leading the charge is Melissa Vargas of Türkiye and a host of China’s elite, as Tianjin Bohai Bank makes their third World Championship appearance, aiming to surpass their pool stage best. VakifBank, a four-time champion, seeks a fifth title, while Eczacibasi, twice a champion, comes off a bronze finish last year.
Brazil’s duo, Dentil Praia and Minas, are five-time consecutive participants, with Minas having previously clinched silver twice. This year’s tournament marks a momentous occasion as Vietnam’s Sport Center I steps onto the world stage, exemplifying the expanding global footprint of women’s volleyball.
