In a stunning opening day at the 2023 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship in Hangzhou, Tianjin Bohai Bank of China overpowered Brazil’s Gerdau Minas of Belo Horizonte in a straight-set victory, 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-20). Despite the absence of star player Melissa Vargas, Tianjin showed remarkable dominance, particularly in the third set, with standout performances from Li Yingying and middle blockers Yuan Xinyue and Wang Yuanyuan.

In Pool B, VakifBank Spor Kulubu of Istanbul, Türkiye, lived up to their reputation as four-time club world champions, decisively beating Vietnam’s Sport Center I Women’s Club of Hanoi 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-13). VakifBank displayed a powerful game, particularly in blocking and attacking, with Zehra Gunes leading the team in scoring.
