The match was a spectacle for the full house in Stožice Arena, with Slovenia overcoming a late 8-10 deficit in the fifth set to clinch the victory. Serbia, already qualified for the Olympics, needed a win to make it to the final tournament but fell short.
Slovenia’s victory marks their 11th win in 12 matches. The final VNL tournament kicks off next week in Łódź, Poland.
In earlier match, Italy closed the Volleyball Nations League Preliminary Phase with a 3-1 victory (25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 25-21) over Turkey. The win places Italy third in the standings, boasting 9 victories and 27 points, and secures their spot in the Quarterfinals against France. Alessandro Bovolenta led Italy with 25 points, while Turkey’s top scorer, Adis Lagumdzija, earned 20 points.
