The 2024 Women’s Club World Championship is off to a thrilling start in Hangzhou, China, with Italy’s Vero Volley Milano and Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano making their mark with big opening-day wins over Brazilian rivals. Meanwhile, Japan’s NEC Red Rockets dominated Vietnam’s LP Bank Ninh Binh to start their campaign on a strong note.

Milano came out firing in their debut, sweeping Gerdau Minas 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 27-25). Paola Egonu led the charge with 18 points, proving once again why she’s one of the best in the game. Despite a spirited comeback attempt from Minas in the second set, Milano held their nerve, with Danesi and Egonu sealing the deal.

Conegliano followed suit with a flawless 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-15, 25-15) over Dentil Praia. Zhu Ting, a home-crowd favorite, shone alongside teammates Gabi and Fahr, who all chipped in 12 points. Conegliano’s blocking game was unstoppable, leaving Praia with no answers.

In another match, Japan’s NEC Red Rockets outplayed Vietnam’s LP Bank Ninh Binh in a straight-set win, showing they’re a team to watch.
