
Türkiye sealed their spot in the elimination rounds of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship after a commanding 3-0 win over Bulgaria in Nakhon Ratchasima. The European champions showed resilience, overturning a seven-point deficit in the third set to finish the match 25-23, 25-19, 25-13.
Melissa Vargas topped the scoring with 20 points, while Ebrar Karakurt added 13, playing a key role in the comeback. “We didn’t start the third set well, but I was able to reset mentally and help the team,” Karakurt said after the match.
In the same pool, Canada survived a five-set thriller against Spain, winning 3-2 (22-25, 28-26, 24-26, 25-15, 15-10). Outside hitter Andrea Mitrovic led with 22 points, supported by Hilary Howe Johnson with 19.
The results mean Türkiye (six points) and Canada (five) move on to the Round of 16, while Spain and Bulgaria are eliminated. The two advancing teams will now clash for the top spot in Pool E on Wednesday.
