Japan stole the spotlight in Bangkok, stunning defending champions Serbia with a 3-1 win at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship. The victory not only secured the top spot in Pool H but also set up a highly anticipated showdown with hosts Thailand in the round of 16.
With captain Mayu Ishikawa firing 19 points and strong support from Yukiko Wada and Yoshino Sato, Japan’s attack proved too much for Serbia. Serbia fought hard, led by Aleksandra Uzelac’s 20-point performance, but their errors at key moments left them chasing. They’ll now face the Netherlands in their knockout clash.
Meanwhile, Ukraine ended their campaign on a high, defeating Cameroon in straight sets to claim third place in the pool.
