Despite the fact Italian side Imoco Volley Conegliano had their ticket for the 2017 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Club World Championship, it slipped out of their hands at the last moment.

As International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) published on their website, Russian Dinamo Moscow got the last wild card for the tournament that gathers the best Women’s volleyball clubs in the world.

Thus, despite the fact they were 2017 CEV Champions League silver medalists and that their national federation was even ready to shorten playoff finals because of their participation in the Club World Championship, Imoco will not take part in Kobe, Japan, May 8-14.

Dinamo Moscow are reigning Russian Superliga title holders, currently competing in the national playoff finals, finishing recent Final Four of the Champions League in Treviso, Italy, as last placed.

List of 2017 #FIVBWomensCWC participants:

Hisamitsu Springs (JPN, hosts)

NEC Red Rockets (JPN, 2016 Asian Club Championship winners)

Rexona-Sesc (BRA, 2017 South American Club Championship winners)

VakıfBank İstanbul (TUR, 2017 Champions League winners)

Vôlei Nestlé/Osasco (BRA, wild card)

Eczacıbaşı VitrA (TUR, wild card)

Dinamo Moscow (RUS, wild card)

Volero Zürich (SUI, wild card)

It is all about entrance ‘fees’: because Moscow has more money than Conegliano and the last couldn’t or didn’t want to pay those 100.000 US $, Moscow took over. If this is the right way to distribute the (too?) many (4) wildcards, everybody should decide on his own.
