The boys coached by Reza Vakili Farjad downed Russia in the finals in Riffa, Bahrain, by a 3-1 (25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-20) and showed why Iran is the most titled Asian Men’s side in this age category with seven titles.
In the rerun of the clash for the bronze medal from the previous edition of the tournament in Corrientes and Resistencia, Argentina, which also went to Iran, an 18-year-old Paykan Tehran opposite Porya Yali had a highly notable display with 29 points. Pavel Tetyukhin, the son of a legendary Sergey Tetyukhin, topped „Zbornaya“ with 16 points. Interestingly, three players in Russia made 4 kill blocks, but it did not help Andrey Nozdrin‘s protégés.
In the match for the bronze medal, Japan beat South Korea in straight sets, partially 25-22, 25-22, 25-18.
