WGCC 2017 M: Never underestimate Italy! Vettori routes “Azzurri” to a 5-set win over Olympic champs Brazil

When it was least expected from them, Italy have shown a huge competitive spirit and strength against the reigning Olympic Games champions Brazil.

In the opener of a Day 2 in the 2017 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup in Japan, the Italian National Team recovered from a demolition which they suffered in the first set to down Brazil in five, 3-2 (15-25, 27-25, 27-25, 18-25, 15-12).

The opposite Luca Vettori paved Italy’s way to victory with 27 points (4 kill blocks), making three points in a row in the tie-break at 9-10 which totally extinguished Brazil’s hopes of victory in Nagoya. In Brazil, Wallace de Souza notched 19 points (4 kill blocks).

Now, both the „Azzurri“ and Brazil have a 1-1 record but the South American side has one point more compared to the rivals (4 pts. – 3 pts.).

Brazil vs. Italy 2-3 (25-15, 25-27, 25-27, 25-18, 12-15)

USA vs. Iran, 08:40 CET

Japan vs. France, 12:15 CET
