VNL W: Dutch girls won tie-break against Belgium, Russia dominated against Italy

The Week 2 of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League for women has been started and the Netherlands continued with the good performances.

In their fourth match this year, they celebrated new victory and this time against Belgium after five amazing sets 3-2 (21-25, 25-19, 23-25, 31-29, 15-10).

Lonneke Slöetjes led her team in the first match of Week 2 in Pool in Japan by finishing the match with 26 points, while Anne Buijs also had a superb match, finishing with 20 points. On the opponents’ side, Kaja Grobelna scored a game-high 28 points while Britt Herbots scored 22 points.

In the first match in Suwon, South Korea, Russia scored the straight sets victory 3-0 (26-24, 25-12, 25-23) over hapless Italy who are still without a win. This was their third win this year after they suffered defeat from the Netherland in the last match of Week 1.

Irina Voronkova finished with 14 points (11 spikes and 3 serves) and she was ably supported by Irina Fetisova (12 points), Natalia Malykh (12 points) and captain Kseniia Parubets (11 points. 

Serena Ortolani (14 points) tried her hardest for a gallant Italy, who matched Russia’s intensity for two of the sets.
