France starting opposite hitter Stéphen Boyer definitely won’t compete in the Olympic qualification tournament in Berlin (January 5-10), L’Équipe reported. After the injury of 2 outside hitters earlier, Thibault Rossard (left foot) and Trévor Clévenot (back), a 3rd goodbye has happened to the “Les Bleus”. Boyer withdrew from the team for personal reasons and the head coach Laurent Tillie accepted his explanations.
“Things are clear, I still want to play for France and I hope to be present this summer. It hurts me not to be able to come and help my teammates in Berlin but that’s how it is,” the 23-year-old player said, not mentioning a single word regarding the rumors of an incident with Earvin Ngapeth after the last EuroVolley.
Good news for the fans of France is that 2 players whose participation in the qualification tournament was uncertain will play after all. Kévin Tillie, whose wife has just given birth in Warsaw, Poland, will join the squad tomorrow. The injury of Julien Lyneel isn’t that serious and he’ll also be at the disposal of the head coach Laurent Tillie.
The final list of France for the Olympic Qualifications:
Setters: Benjamin Toniutti (captain), Antoine Brizard.
Middle blockers: Kévin Le Roux, Nicolas Le Goff, Barthélémy Chinenyeze, Daryl Bultor
Opposite hitters: Jean Patry, Julien Winkelmuller
Outside hitters: Earvin Ngapeth, Kévin Tillie, Julien Lyneel, Yacine Louati, Timothée Carle.
Libero: Jénia Grebennikov.
