FRA M: Historic Victory for Nantes-Rezé in the French Cup Final

by WoV

Nantes-Rezé clinched their first ever title by defeating Montpellier in the French Cup final, with a straight-sets victory (25-16, 25-22, 26-24). This victory comes after the Nantes women’s team, the Neptunes, also secured their first French Cup, marking a monumental weekend.

The final offered Nantes-Rezé a chance to bounce back from a recent defeat in PlayOff quartefinal match against St. Nazaire. They seized this opportunity with a performance that was near perfect, particularly highlighted by Chizoba Neves, the Brazilian standout who was named the final’s MVP.

Despite some resistance from Montpellier, Nantes showed resilience and tactical superiority at crucial moments, especially in the tense final set, turning around a set point against them to secure the title.

Montpellier, facing their third French Cup final defeat, reflects on missed opportunities, having previously lost in 2008 and 2010.
